Production durable de carburant pour l’aviation via électrolyse à haute température et un réacteur Fischer-Tropsch intégré
Solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) is a promising technology for producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) via Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis. Despite its advantages, such as high efficiency and waste heat utilization, challenges remain in scaling up SOE/FT integration. These include optimizing heat integration, cell performance, and energy efficiency while reducing costs. Collaboration is crucial in addressing these issues and advancing SOE/FT technology to meet the growing demand for low-carbon SAF driven by recent emission reduction targets. SAFphyre brings together a well-designed consortium of industry experts and leading researchers to tackle key challenges in co-SOE and FT. By leveraging their collective expertise in computational modeling, experimental validation, and industrial scale-up, the consortium will address critical issues in materials development, process optimization, and system integration. The industrial partners – Topsoe and Sasol – will bring in essential expertise in manufacturing, scale-up, and commercialisation, while providing a clear pathway to further develop and exploit its key results. The main aim of SAFphyre is thus to demonstrate the production of SAF using syngas produced by co-SOE technology. It will manufacture and test next generation SOE cells and combine advanced modelling and simulations with innovative numerical approaches to optimise BoP and cell design, demonstrating the potential for highly efficient and cost-effective co-SOE. Fed by the latest industrial insights on co-SOE manufacturing and FT e-fuel production, SAFphyre will address the key technical challenges for co-electrolysis integration to deliver a demonstration platform for new co-SOE technology that includes dynamic operational and scale-up strategies for large scale (100+ MW) systems, thereby lowering costs, increasing efficiency, accelerating the deployment of co-SOE and contributing to the overall sustainability of the European chemicals industry.
