HARPNET – Exploiter la pharmacologie de résolution pour les thérapeutiques de nouvelle génération

Chronic inflammatory diseases and their comorbidities pose a major global health burden, with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and associated cardiovascular disease (CVD) affecting hundreds of millions worldwide. Current anti-inflammatory therapies alleviate symptoms but rarely restore tissue homeostasis, leaving patients at risk of persistent inflammation and long-term damage. Addressing this challenge requires researchers trained not only in classical immunology and pharmacology but also in the emerging field of Resolution Pharmacology, which aims to activate endogenous pathways that terminate inflammation and promote tissue repair. Yet the interdisciplinary expertise required, spanning resolution biology, GPCR signalling, advanced multi-omics, systems analysis, and translational development, is not available within existing programmes, creating a critical skills gap that limits progress. HARPNET addresses this unmet need through an innovation-driven training programme uniting 14 beneficiaries and 11 associated partners. Fifteen Doctoral Candidates (DCs) will be embedded in cross-disciplinary teams that co-develop cutting-edge methodologies, including integrated multi-omic pipelines, systems-level disease models, and next-generation approaches to target pro-resolving pathways. This will equip DCs with the scientific, technical, and translational competencies required to drive mechanism-based therapeutic innovation. Using RA and RA-associated CVD as clinically relevant models, HARPNET will deliver hands-on, systems-level, cross-sectoral training across academic, clinical, and industrial settings. Through this comprehensive and co-creative programme, DCs will bridge discovery research with therapeutic development, generating transferable tools and knowledge that extend beyond the network. HARPNET will strengthen Europe’s long-term capacity to lead in Resolution Pharmacology and to train the next generation of innovators in inflammation research.
