CRUISE - Certification du RR1073 pour la mise en œuvre et l’exploitation stratégique d’Ultrafan
| Abstract | Rolls-Royce is developing a new high temperature nickel alloy to be used in future engines targeted at aircraft designed to have significantly lower fuel burn and emissions. These novel engine architectures represent a step change, which will ensure that Rolls-Royce maintains its long term competitiveness. One of the key aspects of these new engine architectures is an engine core operating at higher speeds and temperatures to achieve the efficiency required, while maintaining competitive service lives. This new alloy offers a significant step up in temperature capability over existing alloys and possesses properties which best suit the demands of future engine. Due to the evolving timescales for a brand new centreline engine such as the Ultrafan, Rolls-Royce has decided to maximise the exploitation potential of the alloy by introducing it into current Trent engine products. The alloy will help significantly improve the service lives of associated components and in turn the competitiveness and sustainability of our Trent engines. |
