Dispositifs passifs et actifs à fibres multicœurs : capteurs de forme 3D et sources laser
"The key research goal of this project on ""Multi-core fibre passive and active devices: 3D shape sensors and laser sources"" (MCF3DSLs) is to train a talented researcher on the development of passive and active devices and systems in high capacity multi-core fibres (MCFs) for application in 3D shape sensing and laser source emission. In the aspect of passive MCF devices, the proposed project will use spun MCFs to develop a new 3D shape sensor with a high reconstruction accuracy of millimetre even sub-millimetre. In the aspect of active deceives, this project will implant the well designed fibre MCF gratings in the active MCFs to develop a promising MCF lasers sources for the spatial division multiplexing communication systems. The success of this interdisciplinary project will provide a platform to extend photonics technology from present single-core to new emerging high capacity multi-core, a big step forward to increase the critical bandwidth and functionality for potential applications in optical-fibre communications, medical diagnosis and treatment systems, civil engineering structure monitoring, and security and defense systems. The Fellow - Dr Guolu Yin will be trained at the host, Aston University, UK, and other four academic/industry partners at EU. The hosts will provide scientific training in fibre optic devices, optical sensors, fibre lasers, and advanced grating modelling to enable the fellow to become a leader in an area of high practical relevance. Additionally, the fellow will be trained to improve his complementary-skills, ensuring that he is equipped to be a future leader in academia. The project outputs will contribute to European leadership in photonics and will produce a new generation of photonic systems and devices in the challenging multi-core fibre instead of the conventional single mode fibre, which support the European Union's vision for a high-technology economy to promote European social and economic cohesion and prosperity."
